Canadians for Broadcast Accountability (“CBA,” “we”) is an unincorporated Canadian non-profit association run by volunteers. These terms apply to cba-tv.ca and everything published on it. By using the site you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the site. Our Privacy Policy explains separately how we handle personal information.
1. What this site is
The site explains how Canadian telecom and broadcasting regulation works, tracks proceedings before the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC), and publishes guides to the complaint processes run by service providers and the Commission for Complaints for Telecom-television Services (CCTS). It is general information for the public. It is not a government site, and it does not speak for the CRTC, the CCTS, or any service provider.
2. Information, not advice
Nothing on this site is legal, financial, or professional advice, and reading it does not create an adviser-client relationship of any kind. The guides describe processes in general terms; your situation may differ. Before you rely on anything here for a decision that matters to you, confirm it with your provider, the CCTS, the CRTC, or a qualified professional.
3. Accuracy and currency
We make reasonable efforts to get things right, and we cite public sources for the figures we publish. But providers change their fees, contact details, and procedures without notice; regulatory deadlines move; decisions get issued. Content on this site may be incomplete, out of date, or simply wrong. It is provided as is, without any warranty, express or implied, as to its accuracy, completeness, or fitness for any purpose. If you find an error, please tell us and we will fix it.
4. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, CBA and the individuals who volunteer with it are not liable for any loss or damage of any kind arising from your use of, or reliance on, this site or anything on it. That includes a complaint that is refused, a deadline that is missed, a fee that is not refunded, or any other outcome of a process you started or a step you took after reading something here. Some provinces do not allow certain limitations of liability; where that is the case, our liability is limited to the greatest extent the law allows.
5. Complaint tools and templates
Our complaint wizard and the template letters in our guides generate text in your browser for you to review, edit, and send. We never see what you draft. You are responsible for checking that anything you send is accurate, and for the consequences of sending it.
6. Third-party sites and content
The site links to the CRTC, the CCTS, service providers, news outlets, and other third parties for your convenience. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for what they publish or for anything that happens when you use them. A link is not an endorsement.
7. Using our content
You are welcome to read, share, link to, and quote from this site, with attribution to Canadians for Broadcast Accountability and a link back where practical. You may not present our content as the official position of the CRTC, the CCTS, or any provider, and you may not republish it in a way that misrepresents who wrote it or what it says. Material we quote from public records, regulatory decisions, and other sources remains the property of its authors.
8. Member area
Some pages are available only to members who sign in. Keep your sign-in details to yourself. We may suspend or remove access to the member area at any time, including where it is used to disrupt the site or to harass other people.
9. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the site changes. The “Last updated” date at the top reflects the most recent change. Continued use of the site after a change means you accept the updated terms.
10. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. Any dispute about them will be dealt with in the courts of Ontario.
